Over the first 5 months of the year I have encouraged you to set goals for yourself for this year’s golf, I hope that you are reviewing these goals and either resetting or adjusting where necessary? A great way to check if you are reaching your goals is with the use of statistics after your round. I highly suggest that you take 10-15 minutes after you have played to review your round and write down some details.
Me: How are the changes feeling?
Client: I think I am improving
Me: Have you been keeping your stats?
Client: er, not really
Before the 2012 Olympics David Brailsford asked the Olympic Cycling team to bring their own pillow with them to a winter training camp. Whilst it sounds rather strange, the reasoning behind it made perfect sense and adhered to the 1% rule. Rest is a key component in improving performance because the quicker you recover, the quicker you can perform to a high level. So when the team stayed in an unfamiliar hotel with unfamiliar beds, the pillow helped the team recover quicker by getting a better nights rest. Ask yourself the question, how good is your first nights sleep at an unfamiliar place?
