I hope you have had a nice extended weekend and that you have played lots of golf. If you have not been golfing then I hope you got a chance to catch the golf from Wentworth. The PGA Championship is the flag ship event of the European Tour and would rival the Players Championship at Sawgrass. I thought there was some fantastic golf on show and this was certainly proved with a -21 winning score and no fewer than 5 holes in 1! One of them was scored by Miguel Angel Jimenez on the final day to take his career hole in ones to 10, which takes him past Colin Montgomerie's previous record of 9. Even more remarkable that this hole in one come just a week after his last! Some people wait a lifetime for their first hole in one, but not Miguel! He is one of the most likable characters on Tour and with his cigar smoking, rioja drinking and great celebration, its easy to see why!
It was also fantastic to see local Professional Alex Belt from Bridlington take part. Sadly he missed out on making the cut, but I am sure he will have been proud of his display. I have been fortunate enough to meet Alex on a number of occasions and I am sure that he will take this experience and learn so much from it. Good luck with the rest of the season Alex.
Finally, tomorrow sees another of my tremendously successful Junior Camps. I hold these during every school holiday and they are a great way of covering more than just one aspect of the game. We start off with a particular area of the game and work on the technique. We then look at putting these into competitive games, much like you would do on the real course. I have said it before that the best way to make the link from the practice area to the course is by playing competitive games. This makes your practice as similar as possible to what you do out on the course. It also adds a bit of pressure similar to what you might find in a match.
