I hope that you are not suffering from withdrawal symptoms after some pretty nasty weather last week and that you have managed to find time to hit some balls. At Hornsea golf club we are very fortunate to have one of the best draining golf courses in the area, meaning we were open for play on Saturday when a lot of the other courses in the area were closed.
The European Tour saw a very exciting finish, with Anirban Lahiri claiming his maiden victory after a bit of a collapse from Bernd Wiesberger. Wiesberger had a 5 shot lead going into the final round but, on a very tough day for scoring, shot a two over par to finish behind Lahiri. You have to feel sorry for Wiesberger as he has played some great golf this year without winning anything. Credit to Lahiri as his great round on Saturday (62 and best score of the week) put him in the perfect place to strike.

Last week was very quiet for me with the weather preventing any individual lessons, but the Junior lessons are still going great guns. In this weeks Academy we covered putting and, in particular, the pressure putt. We created a simple round the clock game where they had to hole 4 putts in a row, from a putter length distance and from 4 different positions. Once they had completed the 4 in a row, other Academy members came over to watch them do it again. The added pressure of people watching meant that only 1 person managed to complete it! We talked about how putting is pretty much the most important part of the game and because of this I have set up a Junior Putting Competition. Between now and the end of March they have to complete the 9-hole putting course in as few shots as possible, after the first week Harry Anderson and Matt McDonnell are in the lead with a not bad 17 (-1). I think that a 15 or 14 will be good enough to claim the prize.
This leads me nicely on to my Half Term Junior Camps I have set up for next week. On Monday 16th and Friday 20th I will be hosting two 3 hour sessions where children will cover all aspects of the golf game. This is a really good taster session for anyone who has children or grandchildren and are thinking about getting them started at golf. Each session only cost £10 and I will provide refreshments. If you would like to take part then please contact me on 07745 543940 to book your child's place.
