In my last blog I wrote about the exciting news that Hornsea Golf Club has started to build a covered practice facility and that I have invested in a launch monitor to accompany the facility. This week I am pleased to announce that you can now book your golf lessons with me with just a click of a button. I have teamed up with Acuity Scheduling to make it as easy as possible for you to book your lessons. I often have had numerous missed calls on my phone when I have finished my day of lessons, so this provides you with a much easier way to get booked in. I have been using the program with the Junior Academy and the feedback I have has so far is great.

Something that has been coming up in my lessons recently, and that I thought would be a good topic to write about this week, is what a golfer expects from their game on a given day. I often feel that golfers can be quite unrealistic with what they are trying to do with their game and what their current standard is, almost a run before walk scenario. I then find that this hampers progress as the pupil will get annoyed or frustrated with themselves for not being able to accomplish the task the think they should be able to.
We teed off on the 18th with the goal of achieving THEIR par for that hole, which based on the 18th at Hornsea would make it a par 5. The golfer played the hole differently to how they would have previously and took two steady shots to be just short of the green in two, chipped to about 10 feet and narrowly missed THEIR ‘birdie’ putt. The golfer in question now has to change the par on each hole to represent difficulty according to their handicap. After a bit more discussion the golfer felt that it was easy to achieve the new par of each hole, so by simply adjusting the expectations on a particular hole, the game appeared easier.
I believe that if you have a handicap of 18 I believe your scorecard should look like the attached picture. This will make the course appear a lot easier and change the frame of mind you are in.
Winter offers in full flow
There are many other ways of approaching your game to maximise both skill levels and enjoyment levels which I am able to help you with. Managing your expectations can take time to put into practice as it may mean a whole new on course strategy that can make you play to your strengths. Whilst you are playing to your strengths on the course then you should be working on your weaknesses off course in your practice time. I have helped numerous people improve their ability or enjoyment levels of golf and a lot of it has been done during winter. To help you with this I have come up with specific programs of coaching to help a particular aspect of your game. These packages have been selling incredibly well, so if you do want one, please get in touch as I only have a limited amount of each.
