Good evening and a Happy New Year to all my readers, I hope that you have had a good festive period and that you have had plenty to eat and drink! Christmas and New Year was a little bit different than normal for Jane and I as we had Arthur to look after. Normally we would visit our respective families before meeting up later in the day for the rest of the night. This year we could not decide which family Arthur should visit first, so we invited both families round to our house for the day.
New Year, New Technology
For me Christmas came early with the delivery of my new launch monitor, the SkyTrak and I have already been testing it out on the practice area. So far the results are everything I could have wanted! Using SkyTrak you get a much more accurate analysis of what the club and ball is doing at impact…this is all that matters…impact!
For those who have lessons with me, you will know my main concern is what happens at impact, I am not bothered if your swing looks like Rory McIlroy or Jim Furyk, I bother whether it is functional and repeatable. The data I get from SkyTrak will help this. The Skytrak accurately reads the impact of the club on the ball through its cameras to give important information such as;
Having this additional data allows me to improve my lessons to my pupils by giving them more accurate information.
I already provide a club fitting service, but this will give you a more accurate idea of how much further the ball is going or how much straighter the ball is finishing with a new club.
I have long been an advocate of the mantra ‘Improve your short game and you will lower your scores.’ Well, now I can offer a more accurate assessment of your short game and specifically pitching…if you can get up and down from with 100 yards more often your score will come down!
Gap testing is now much more accurate - with precise numbers I can find out exactly how far you hit each clubs and whether any clubs hit the ball the same distance. Do you need and extra wedge or that 3 iron in your bag, well now you can find out.
The SkyTrak also lets me do some entertaining too, as it has features to run Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive competitions. Keep your eyes open for events to follow.
It is the time of year where I am reviewing my business and asking myself questions about what is working and what is not, what have I added and what I am going to add to my business. I have decided to increase my prices slightly, I strongly believe the results I have got pupils and that I can get people warrants this change.
It is that time of the year where we hear lots of talk about what we are going to do differently in the forthcoming year...we also hear about how those plans have already fallen by the wayside...these are of course our New Year resolutions. Personally, I am not a fan the word resolution as the association with it is not good...be honest, how many people do you know who have completed their resolutions? Do you know anyone who has lasted more than a month doing New Year's resolutions? I prefer to set some goals to achieve by the end of the year, and then break them down into manageable sections. I have made personal and professional goals and I am quite happy to share some of them with you...
- Teach an average of 35 individual lessons per month (29 currently)
- Attend 2 CPD courses to further my golfing education (2 last year)
- Have 4 pupils gain representative honours (2 last year)
- Have a new car
- Climb 1 of the national 3 peaks
- Learn how to make sourdough bread
What I hope you notice about the 6 goals I have written is that they are all Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and have a Time scale to them. This allows me to focus on the areas in my business and life where I can improve myself and therefore achieve my goals.
Take some time to think about your golf and what it means to you, did you enjoy your golf last year? Even if the answer is yes, then ask yourself what would make your golf even more enjoyable, would it be to hit the ball an extra 10 yards? Would it be to hit the ball right to left? Would it be to break 90? If the answer was no, then why not? What stopped you from enjoying your round or playing your best?
These are just some of the things I can help you with and, combined with the use of my new SkyTrak launch monitor, I am convinced I can help you get to where you want to go…but much quicker.
Have a look at the testimonials section of my website to see the people I have helped...make 2018 YOUR year of golf!
