Sorry for the very late post of my blog, normally I like to post on a Monday night, but after having such a busy weekend I find myself running a bit behind. Since I last wrote I have managed to squeeze two games of golf in! Yes, you read that right, I have played golf, not once, but twice! The first was in a Texas Scramble shotgun competition at Hornsea where I played with Kev Taylor, Darren Jefferson and Nick Butler. We got off to a fairly slow start with two bogies in the first 4 holes and with this format you cannot afford to drop shots. We battled valiantly and posted a pretty good score, but ended up just out of the prizes, if we had not dropped the two shots we would have picked up 4th. My other round of golf was at Hainsworth Park in the Hornsea Rugby Club Am Am. Sadly the golf did not match the great day and partners and the less said the better. The course was in great condition and it was good to run into so many familiar faces.
After a busy week of lessons, Jane and I went to visit her brother in London, which is something we always enjoy. London is such a vast and diverse city and we really like the fact that you can jump on the tube, travel for 10-15 minutes and the environment you step out to is completely different to the one you have just come from. For Jane, I think the highlight was visiting Harry Potter World on Monday, which even I have to admit was pretty good. I would recommend going to anyone with or without kids!
People often say that custom fitting is only for good players, however I believe that this statement is far from the truth and that everyone should get custom fitted for irons. There are many components of a golf club that will affect what the ball does, the chances of you buying a set of club from at rack that suit you perfectly are very minimal. These off the rack purchases are often made because of the price that they are, but this should not sway you. Imagine you saw a T-shirt you really liked, it was the perfect colour, had the right pattern on it and it would only cost you £1. The problem with the t-shirt is that it is a size small and you take an extra large... would you buy the t-shirt? This is the equivalent of buying a set of golf clubs from a rack, rather than getting fitted.
After last weeks busy week I find myself staring at another busy week, please bare in mind this is not a complaint! I love being busy and I am over the moon that I have a full diary especially now that summer is very nearly here I can only see myself getting busier. It is school half term next week so I am having one of my popular Junior Coaching Camps on Tuesday 26th. It starts at 2pm and goes on for 3 hours. This is a great chance for your child to improve his or her golf as we cover all aspects of the game. I focus on technique and then we play competitive games to test the new technique. If you would like to book a place then please contact me on 07745 543940. It cost £10 and refreshments are provided.
This week also sees the last of my Monday morning sessions, do not despair as I will be starting them up again on the 1st of June. The men's starts at 9am and the ladies session is straight after at 10:30am and both sessions will be based around putting. These sessions are proving to be very popular amongst members and non-members so if you feel as though you need some brushing up in a particular area then please do not hesitate to come along.
