Good evening to you all, I hope you have managed to get out on to the course over the weekend. I have had another busy week with lessons and another busy junior lesson which topped off a great week. Jane and I are also in full wedding mode with just over one week left before our big day. We are just about there with all the planning and only have a the little bits and pieces to sort out. I feel very calm about the whole thing and am really looking forward to what should be a cracking day... hope Jane is feeling the same!
During last week I did have time to visit the annual Golf Trade Show in Harrogate. It is the only time of the year where we PGA Professionals can get all the different manufacturers in one place. This gives us chance to see what sort of new equipment and technology are about to come onto the market in the following year. I did like the new designs on the Puma and Footjoy spikeless shoes, but the main thing that caught my eye was a new launch monitor from Sky Caddie. They have produced the SkyTrak which is a camera based system that takes photos of the ball immediately after impact and works out the key parameters of a shot (club speed, swing path, club face angle, angle of attack and centredness of strike). From here I can look at the up numbers that your swing is producing and determine what needs to be worked on.
In the picture I have attached you can see the two quotes relating to this rule, one is from one of the greatest golfers to play the game and one is from one of the most renowned short game coaches. This is great example of how golf has changed over the years... are you going to change your on course strategy?
Finally for this week I must mention the fantastic result from Yorkshireman Matthew Fitzpatrick in the British Masters this week. This is his first full year on the tour and his results have steadily got better through the the year with his previous best a second place finish behind another Yorkshireman, Danny Willett. For his efforts Fitzpatrick won himself £500k and subsequently treat himself to a Subway!
